Tips for Teaching Good Manners and Etiquette to a Child
When it comes to teaching children good manners and etiquette, there are different ways in which it can be done. One of the most important things that an individual should do is to ensure that they become their role model. This is because most of the kids always copy what they see. With being a parent that is mannerly, most probably the child will follow the steps and be mannerly as well. One should ensure that they talk to them as well since the kids cannot practice etiquette if they are not given an idea of what it should be. The best way in which it can be done is having a sitting with them and get to explain to them what good manners are and the rules as well. If it happens that they are younger, one can always include them in fun and playtime as well such as giving them acting out scenarios. Individuals should ensure that when they are teaching their children good manners and etiquette, they should start slow since the child needs to learn on the basics first. Starting with the polite words which are youngster such as saying thank you, please, excuse me, sorry can be of great help. Using the words very frequently is also advisable especially when one is around the children as they get to imitate what one is saying and doing most of the time. To ensure that they understand, one should ensure that they give them opportunities such as when they are in a restaurant or a park to practice on the specific phrases.
Individuals should also ensure that they include table manners in the basics. Depending on the age of the kids, one should give them lessons on what is supposed to be done and what should not be done hence making sure that they practice the lessons be it at home or in the public. When the child tends to show the polite words and behavior that they are using, the best way to encourage them is by giving them praise. This is because; having a reinforcement that is positive from the parents is always one of the motivations that are great especially to the children that might be trying to achieve something. If it happens that they miss on saying something such as thank you, one should always give them a reminder on the spot. This way, it can become a routine to them whenever they need to use the phrases. Showing them that they are doing the right thing whenever they say a word to a stranger, makes them even more comfortable hence giving them the courage to use the words even when they are alone with their fellow playmates or classmates. It is also important to teach the children that they should always respect their elders as well as ensure that they pave the way for people. This way, it makes work easier for both the parent and the kid as they grow since they are already aware of the basics required in life.
